We also highly recommend seeing a dental hygienist as well as your dentist. A dental hygienist is responsible for working with you to help you keep your teeth and gums clean and healthy. If you travel from Stratford-upon-Avon to see our hygienist they will constantly monitor your dental health against the grading scale, each time you come to see us you will be graded against that scale to see if your dental health has got better or worse.

Dental hygienists are a key member of the dental team and offer advice on:

  • Toothbrushing technique
  • Flossing
  • Cleaning adequately in between your teeth
  • How to maintain healthy gums
  • Keeping halitosis (bad breath) at bay
  • Looking after your children's teeth

You may have seen various reports in the press linking your dental health to your overall body health, particularly the health of your heart. The bacteria that lurk in your mouth can also be responsible for facilitating the presence of other bacteria which can cause problems around the rest of your body.

These bacteria are particularly present with gingivitis and the more serious periodontitis, so it's vital that you ensure that your dental health stays in excellent condition. Gingivitis in its early stages can be difficult to detect at home, this is why visiting your dentist regularly, particularly your dental hygienist is a good idea.
